ಆಗುಂಬೆ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಒಂದು ಊರು. ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ಊರು ಒಂದು ಪ್ರವಾಸಿ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಅದ್ವಿತೀಯ. ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತದ ದೃಶ್ಯ,ವನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಜನ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಕ್ಟೋಬರ್ ತಿಂಗಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕಾಶ ನಿರ್ಮಲವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಮುಳುಗುವ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಮುದನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಮಳೆಯೇ ಮಲೆನಾಡಿನ ಜೀವಾಳ. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾದಿದ್ದು, ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತವನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವುದೇ ಒಂದು ಸಡಗರದ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ.ಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮಳೆ ಬೀಳುವ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗುಂಬೆಯೂ ಒಂದು. ಈ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕಗಿಯೆ ಆಗುಂಬೆಯನ್ನು "ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಚಿರಾಪುಂಜಿ" ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಭಾರತದ ಏಕೈಕ ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಹರಿದ್ವರ್ಣವನ ಸಂಶೋಧನ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಆಗುಂಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಹೆಸರುವಾಸಿ ಉರಗತಜ್ಞ ರೊಮುಲುಸ್ ವಿಟೆಕರ್ ಆಗುಂಬೆಯನ್ನು "ಕಾಳಿಂಗ ಸರ್ಪಗಳ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ" ಎಂದು ಕರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.೨೦೦೫ ನಿಂದೀಚೆಗೆ ಆಗುಂಬೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಕ್ಸಲ್ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಶುರುವಾಗಿದೆಯಾದರೂ ಬರುವ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಗಳು ಕಡಿಮೆಯೇನಾಗಿಲ್ಲ.
